U18 Girls Win Sportsmanship Award
Congratulations to the MonU U18 Girls, winners of the ODSL Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award.
Each season the coaches in the ODSL vote for a team in their division which exhibits the best sportsmanship. In addition to the coaches votes, sportsmanship points are averaged from each referee report card. Also, points are subtracted for yellow and red cards accumulated during the season. The prestigious award is named after Randy Rawls, one of the leagues original founders and its first President. The award honors the winner's sense of fair play, something for which Randy was renowned as he sought to bring soccer opportunities to the youth of Northern Virginia.
Great job players, parents and coaches!

U15 girls finalists at Capital Fall Classic
The MonU U15 girls followed up their ODSL division title with a 2-1-1 record and a 2nd place finish at the Capital Fall Classic tournament, losing by 1 goal to eventual undefeated champion Alliance SC (MD). The girls played terrific soccer all weekend, capped off with a 2-2 tie in a back and forth local derby vs SOCA U15 premier. The biggest cheer of the afternoon from both groups of fans came when a MonU parent yelled out "go Charlottesville!"

U16 girls kick it up a notch at Capital Fall Classic
After clinching their 2nd consecutive ODSL title, the MonU U16 girls had 2 wins and a tie in their Capital Fall Classic tournament bracket. After defeating Beach FC 2-1 in their opening game, the girls tied the U17 FC Richmond Mystx 1-1, and soundly defeated VA Legacy 3-0. Both of those teams play in the VCCL, regarded as one of the top leagues in the state. The team continues to develop nicely in just their 2nd season of travel soccer.

MonU teams finish at or near the top in league play!
The MonU U12, U15 and U16 girls won Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL) division titles, while the U17 and U18 girls took 2nd place in their divisions. It was the inaugural travel season for the U12 and U15 teams, and both groups show great promise. The U16 girls, in their second season, made it back to back ODSL titles, and back to back undefeated seasons.
The U17 girls did a great job blending in a mix of experienced players with many new, younger girls. The U18 girls finished just 1 point out of the top spot in a hotly contested division. Over the past 4 years both the U17 and U18 teams have risen steadily in ODSL league play.

On the boys side, the newly formed MonU U18 Fire finished their Virginia Soccer League, inc (VSLI) season in 3rd place with a 5-3-0 record. With the focus on ball control and possession, the final scores were not always indicative of how well the boys played. To quote one opposing coach "The most skillful team we've played all year. They beat us with skills and patience."

MonU teams continue solid league play
All MonU teams are still going strong in league play. The U12, U15, U16 and U17 girls all remain undefeated, while the U18 girls sit at 4-1-1. The U18 boys are going strong with 4 wins and 2 losses in VSLI play.

MonU teams start strong in league play!
All six MonU travel teams are off to fast starts in VSLI and ODSL league play. The U18 boys, U17 girls, U16 girls and U15 girls have each begun league play with 2 wins and no losses. The U18 girls have 2 wins and a tie in 3 games, while the U12 girls won their only league game thus far. Leading the way is Bri Carel, who scored all 4 goals in the U18 girls 4-1 win on Saturday.

Great start for U12 girls!
The MonU U12 girls team took second place at the Richmond Cup tournament over Labor Day weekend. The girls finished tied for first in the standings but lost out in a tiebreaker. This was the first tournament for the Flames as they embark on their inaugural travel season.
In the first game against FC Richmond Metro, the MonU girls won 1-0. Jenn W's hard shot on goal was blocked by the Metro keeper, but Josie M put in the rebound for the score. The second game against FC Richmond Mystyx was tied for most of the game thanks to a goal from Josie and several saves from keepers Catie G and Morgan R. The Mystyx managed a goal towards the end of the game for a 2-1 win.
The MonU girls came back in game three against Dynamo Soccer
Club with a 4-0 win. Strong defense by Olivia S, Makala G, and solid midfield play by Keelin O and Caroline M kept Dynamo from scoring. Two goals were scored by Laila A, one by Morgan, and one by
Kira F.
